Once cut to size then line up the vinyl on the surface of the project, then peel around 10-15cm of the backing paper from the top of the film. Line up the sheet on the item and stick the top strip to the item.
You can then pull the paperback down from the underside while using the squeegee on top to push the vinyl down on the surface. If you come across any bubbles just push them out with the squeegee to the closest side.
If the project has curves or bends you can use heat from a heatgun to soften the vinyl and you can then stretch the film around the curve. Do an overlap behind the object if possible to keep it secure. When possible do a test with a cut off of the vinyl so you have practice before doing the larger item.
As these are thicker than normal vinyls we recommend using an adhesive promoter like 3M 94 Primer on all edges, bends and recesses to secure the vinyl for a longer lifespan. This primer should be available from your local 3M distributor or online from a local supplier. |

For Bare Wood like MDF or Ply we recommend sealing the surface first. Bare Wood can be a porous material so the vinyl will not adhere properly unless the wood is completely sealed with a primer, varnish or paint. |

What size should I order? Well this is tricky to answer, there are so many different applications so every project varies. The best advice we have for you is to allow an extra 10cm on each side, especially if you doing an overlap on the back of the door or table. Also always try to simplify it, for example on a kitchen break down each cabinet door into category's, 4 large doors, 8 small doors, 8 drawers etc. Then you can work out how many doors you can fit in each meter (3.3ft) of wrap. Also be aware when ordering a wrap with a grain in it you will need the grain to run along the same way on all doors, this may effect your measurements. And if you are really unsure then just send us a photo to info@layed.com and our experts can advise what you would need to order. |
What type of surfaces can I apply your vinyls to? Once the surface is a smooth and clean the wrap will stick to it so the limitations are endless. PVC, Laminates, Metals, Plastics, Painted Walls, Tiles and much more. Bare Wood Like MDF and Ply need to be sealed before wrapping. |
Can an adhesive Primer be used with the Vinyl? As this vinyl is thicker than most films an adhesive promoter can be used to secure the vinyl in areas where there might be tension or on the edges. Most of our customers use 3M 94 Primer which you can apply to these areas in a thin line of coating and it drys in a few seconds. This will bond the vinyl more securely. Unfortunately we cannot ship this as we only ship by air and it is flammable liquid but it should be widely available in your country online. |
